JHU Maternal Health Hub
Website Design, UX, and Branding
The Maternal Health Hub needed both a public website to share research and a secure portal for collaboration. Under a tight deadline, we established a cohesive brand identity and leveraged existing Drupal components to streamline development. Supporting the design sprint, I played a key role in establishing the Maternal Health Hub’s visual identity and digital presence. I developed the web style guide, curated mood boards, set photography guidelines, and designed key web pages and components. Given the accelerated timeline, I worked closely with developers from the outset to identify ways to repurpose and re-style existing Drupal components, ensuring we met the project’s launch deadline efficiently.
Crafting a Visual Identity for Maternal Health
Establishing a cohesive brand identity was essential to making the Maternal Health Hub both approachable and professional. Through mood boards, we explored multiple visual directions, balancing the warmth of maternity with the credibility of research. A key element of this approach was a photography style that emphasized warmth and intimacy, fostering an emotional connection with the site’s content. These efforts resulted in a comprehensive visual identity, including UI elements, a refined photography style, and a logo that anchored the initiative.
Designing for Clarity and Collaboration
With a tight timeline, we prioritized efficiency by leveraging existing Drupal components, ensuring a visually engaging yet technically feasible design. The public-facing site focused on clear storytelling, making complex research accessible to a broad audience, while the collaboration portal was structured for seamless knowledge sharing.
Ensuring a Seamless Handoff
To support long-term scalability, we delivered a comprehensive design system that included a web style guide, component library, and finalized page designs. Close collaboration with developers ensured smooth implementation, allowing the final product to maintain the integrity of the design vision while meeting technical constraints.
